Creative Arts, Design and Communication

ARTSINTERMEDIATE

This pathway is for students who already make things and now need to decide which part of the creative industry they are aiming at. Fine art and craft, design, media production, writing and journalism, communications, and arts management are all different jobs with different portfolios.

The centre of this stage is the brief. Schools and employers publish exactly what they want to see. Most rejected portfolios ignored that document.

You will also build process evidence, which is the sketchbook, the rejected versions and the notes, and this is often what separates an accepted portfolio from a competent one.

Learning Outcomes

  • Choose a lane within the creative industries and explain what its portfolio has to prove.
  • Read two real portfolio or audition briefs and list every requirement each one sets.
  • Show process work, not only finished pieces, including rejected versions and feedback notes.
  • Take structured critique from two people and rework a piece in response.
  • Compare two programmes on cost, materials, equipment and what graduates go on to do.
