This pathway is for students interested in civil, mechanical, electrical, computer, chemical, environmental, agricultural and mining engineering, and in architecture, surveying and construction.
Engineering is problem-solving with consequences. If a designer gets a poster wrong, it looks bad. If an engineer gets a beam, a circuit or a water system wrong, someone can be hurt. That is why the training is long, the mathematics is unavoidable, and the profession is licensed.
By the end you will know which disciplines exist, what they need from you academically, and what it feels like to design something and watch it fail.
Learning Outcomes
- Name at least six engineering disciplines and say what each one builds or maintains.
- State the mathematics and science subjects required for engineering entry in Ghana and in Canada.
- Explain the difference between an engineer, an engineering technologist and a technician.
- Design, build and test one small object or system and record why it failed.
- Explain why engineering is a licensed profession and what that means for your studies.
