Education, Teaching and Learning Support

EDUCATIONINTERMEDIATE

This pathway is for students who have decided on education and now need to choose what kind. Early years, primary, secondary subject teaching, special education and technical instruction are different jobs with different training.

In Canada the choice bites earliest, because your undergraduate subjects determine which subjects you can later be certified to teach, and secondary teaching normally requires enough university study in two of them.

The evidence that matters at this stage is a sustained tutoring record, not a single good deed.

Learning Outcomes

  • Choose an age group and explain what makes teaching that group different from the others.
  • Set out the full qualification and licensing sequence for teachers in Ghana and in Canada.
  • For a Canadian route, identify two teachable subjects and what university study each would require.
  • Tutor one learner regularly for six weeks with lesson plans and written reflections.
  • Compare two teacher education programmes on placement, length and cost.
