This pathway is for students who have decided on health and now need to choose which part of it. Clinical care, laboratory science, community and public health, and health administration are different jobs with different training and different regulators.
The most important thing to understand at this stage is that finishing a programme and being allowed to practise are two separate events. A regulator decides the second one, and its rules are what you should be reading.
You will also compare programmes on the things students forget: placement hours, where placements are, and what you have to pay for beyond fees.
Learning Outcomes
- Choose a health route and explain what the day-to-day work involves.
- Name the body that regulates your chosen route in Ghana, and how the equivalent works in Canada.
- Explain the difference between completing a programme and being registered to practise.
- Compare two programmes on length, placement hours, placement locations and total cost.
- Build a health evidence record that includes hours, certificates and a reflection.
