Education, Teaching and Learning Support
EDUCATIONBEGINNER
This pathway is for students thinking about teaching, early childhood education, special education, tutoring, learning support, educational technology and school administration.
Teaching is a performance job attached to a large amount of paperwork. You are on your feet, watched, all day, and then you plan and mark afterwards. People who love the subject but dislike the audience usually find this out too late.
The route into it differs sharply between Ghana and Canada, and knowing that early changes what you should be doing at 16.
Learning Outcomes
- Name at least six roles in education besides classroom teacher, and say who each one works with.
- Explain why Ghana can take you into teacher training straight from senior high school while Canada normally requires a degree first.
- Identify the age group you would most want to work with, and why.
- Plan, teach and reflect on one ten-minute lesson with a real learner.
- State the safeguarding rules that apply when a young person helps or tutors other children.
