About this opportunity
The Economic Community of West African States runs a professional immersion programme that places young graduates from its member states inside ECOWAS institutions for one year. ECOWAS describes it as "a one-year, fully paid professional immersion program" that "allows young professionals to actively contribute to regional integration strategies while developing high-level skills alongside industry experts". For Ghanaian and other West African graduates it is one of the few regional routes into multilateral work that does not require prior international experience.
The published requirements are short: be a citizen of an ECOWAS member state, be 32 years old or younger, and hold a degree in a relevant field from a recognised institution. Applications are made directly on the dedicated portal at youngprofessional.ecowas.int rather than by email. The call published on 30 July 2026 gave an application period "From July 31 to August 31, 2026" for the 2027 cohort, which has therefore closed. The programme does recur: ECOWAS published an earlier "YOUNG GRADUATE IMMERSION PROGRAM IN ECOWAS INSTITUTIONS / 2025" call on the same site, with a publication date of 17 August 2024, a closing date of 31 August 2024 and 120 positions, so the window has fallen in late July and August in both rounds on record.
The 2027 call publishes no stipend figure, placement location or document checklist beyond "fully paid", so treat aggregator posts quoting monthly allowances, health insurance or travel support with caution. The earlier Batch 2025 call and the application portal's own FAQ do name the dossier - a motivation request addressed to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, a CV, a copy of the national identity card or passport, and copies of academic diplomas - and Batch 2025 placed the immersion in ECOWAS Departments, Agencies, Resident Representations and Institutions with compulsory in-person or online participation in meetings convened in Abuja. One caution on age: the 2027 call says 32 or younger, while the portal FAQ says "under the age of 35", so plan against the call. Candidates should watch ecowas.int from about July 2027 and have documents ready, since the window is roughly a month long.
