About this opportunity

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is the regional development bank owned by fifteen West African countries - Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo - with its headquarters in Lome, Togo. Through its Young Professionals Programme the Bank recruits "young graduates from universities and other tertiary institutions of learning in the West African sub region and the diaspora" as Young Trainee Professional Staff. This is a paid entry route into development finance rather than an unpaid internship: selected candidates start on a two-year fixed-term contract with a six-month probationary period, and where performance during probation is satisfactory the appointment is converted into an open-ended contract, making the person a permanent member of staff.

Candidates must be nationals of West African countries, less than 30 years of age at the time of recruitment, and hold a master's degree or equivalent in a field related to the Bank's activities - asset and liability management, audit, communication and marketing, finance, engineering, business administration, law, accounting, economics, IT, human resources, infrastructure, private and public sector operations, risk management or language services. Fluency in English, French or Portuguese with a working knowledge of one of the other two is required, along with teamwork in a multicultural environment, analytical and organisational skills, research skills and office software. Conditions of service correspond to grade P1-1 on the EBID salary scale, with post adjustment, housing and transport allowances, a family grant where necessary, admission to the Bank's pension scheme and insurance cover for death, disability, accident and sickness. Trainees rotate through departments under the supervision of senior staff.

Applications for the 2026 round are by email to recrutbidc@bidc-ebid.org, quoting "YOUNG PROFESSIONALS RECRUITMENT PROGRAMME - 2026" in the subject line, no later than 30 October 2026. The dossier comprises a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of qualifications obtained, a copy of a national identity card or passport, a copy of a birth certificate, and a motivation letter setting out reasons for participating, areas of competence and interest, relevant experience and career prospects. Shortlisted candidates are invited to written and oral tests at the Bank's headquarters in Lome, covering technical skills, potential, personality and motivation, computer skills and written and verbal communication in at least two of the Bank's three working languages.
