Design and Technology Institute Ghana TVET Scholarships

The Design and Technology Institute describes itself as "the leading industrial job training and prototype centre in West Africa to transform the livelihoods of young people in TVET". It is based at Mempeasem, East Legon, Accra, and holds CTVET accreditation for Precision Welding & Fabrication and CAD/CAM & Multimedia, alongside AWS SENSE welding and Pearson BTEC credentials. It trains young people aged 16 to 27 in hands-on programmes - Precision Welding and Fabrication, Design Innovation, and Entrepreneurship - as an alternative to the university route, and it partnered with the Mastercard Foundation under the Young Africa Works initiative in 2020, with Phase II launched in 2024. Entry is by secondary school results: Precision Welding and Fabrication asks for "Three core subjects, including Mathematics, English and Integrated Science, and three elective subjects, with a passing grade of C6"; Design Innovation asks for three core subjects including Mathematics, English and ICT at C6; Entrepreneurship asks for two core subjects, Mathematics and English, at C6.

DTI scholarships are awarded on financial need and "can cover a portion or the entire cost of attending DTI", with some categories covering additional housing, meals, learning materials and basic living expenses. Recipients must "demonstrate academic ability, financial need, campus involvement, and community commitment", and DTI warns that false information may disqualify an applicant. The institute also publishes an allocation across groups it wants to reach, including 62 per cent female and 38 per cent male, and places for applicants from rural and peri-urban backgrounds, persons with disability and displaced persons - unusually explicit targeting for a Ghanaian training institution, and a reason for young women considering a trade to look here.

Fee-paying learners pay at least 50 per cent of the total bill a week before the reopening date, with the balance payable in instalments by the end of the first term; fees cover textbooks, accommodation, internet, learning materials, activities and support services including careers, health and counselling. Applications are made through the DTI admissions portal, or on a paper form picked up at campus or recruitment events, with certificates and a passport photograph uploaded. The admission requirements page gives a deadline of 30 August 2026 for the current intake while the scholarship page still says "Applications are OPEN", so confirm the live window with the admissions office before relying on either.
