African Science Academy One-Year A-Level Programme for African Girls

The African Science Academy (ASA) in Tema, Ghana is a girls-only boarding school run by the African Gifted Foundation. In one academic year, students complete Cambridge International A Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, with robotics and computer science alongside, as preparation for degrees and careers in engineering, science and computing. The school opened in 2016 and draws young women from across Africa, so Ghanaian and other African applicants are the intended audience rather than an exception.

Entry is open to applicants who are "typically between 16-19 years old, female, and from any African country", who have studied Physics, Maths and elective Maths at secondary school with excellent predicted grades, who are fluent in English and who will have completed the Senior Secondary School Certificate, A-Levels or equivalent before the programme starts. Cost is handled separately from selection: the school states that "no student that we select will be turned away because they cannot afford our fees" and that it provides "needs-based scholarships to all of our students to cover tuition fees and boarding costs". A separate scholarship form must be submitted with the application form to be considered.

Applications are made on paper or through ASA's online form, then emailed to admissions@africangifted.org, posted to the Tema address, or handed to a school volunteer, together with school transcripts from the last six terms, a recent national examination certificate such as the BECE or O-Levels, and a passport photograph. The most recent deadline published on the how-to-apply page is 1 March 2026, so the intake advertised there is closed as of September 2026; the page has not yet been updated with the next round, and it still carries an inconsistent qualification date, so check with admissions before relying on any date.
